This miniature railroad needs to run on a continuous basis with minimal user interaction.
Power failure fault tolerance, automatic recovery from power failures and precise control of speed and timing mandated
that an industrial PLC be installed for the control of the equipment. The Web application is an example of an
HMI (Human Machine interface) that allows the control of the operation from easy to understand screens. The
complexity of the system is greatly simplified with all options organized and controlled from easy to understand
screens
Main Page:
The main page provides the user with links to various controls for 6 individual trains. A quick
reference to the status of each train is shown in the headlights. Each train picture provides a
link to the schedule of that train.
Train Monitor:
The monitor page shows an overview of
the track layout which is broken down into
different
zones and sidings. The power to each zone
or siding is controlled by the PLC. This
monitor page provides real-time information on
where each train is within the track
layout.
